Professional Support for people with ADHD
There are many challenges facing individuals and families, and my aim is to provide the support they need in my area of expertise.
My experience as a Paediatrician provides me with in-depth understanding of how ADHD and other neurodevelopmental conditions manifest in childhood and adolescence is very relevant when it comes to the identification and ongoing management of the same conditions or challenges in adult life. I am therefore very interested in helping young adults, and in working with parents who think that they too may have ADHD, often after the same is diagnosed in their child.
Similarly, I am very interested in meeting adults who, for other reasons, are starting to think about ADHD as a possible explanation for some of their experiences.
I hope that my rather unique background, and my genuine enthusiasm for this exciting and challenging area, will prove useful.
I am based in Auckland, New Zealand.
What is ADHD?
ADHD is a result of how your brain is made and develops, and is something that starts in childhood and may continue into adult life.
Diagnosis requires the symptoms and difficulties to:
- be apparent in more than one setting,
- have started before the age of 12,
- be causing difficulties and affecting quality-of-life.
There are many reasons why people may have difficulties focusing and concentrating, or may feel impulsive or irritable. Part of an ADHD assessment involves looking back over someone’s life to date, and for adults would involve looking very carefully at their experiences as children and young people.
